Minster Chiropractic Care of Headache and Tips for Headache and Migraine Prevention

Headaches and migraines are never welcome. Headache sufferers are usually quite open to tips on how to prevent them. Migraine (a primary headache) sufferers over the age of 50 find themselves part of a global community with migraine being a foremost cause of disability. (1) Minster Chiropractic Center offers some prevention tips and treatment relief suggestions especially for our Minster headache and migraine sufferers.

DIET AND WEIGHT

A healthy diet feeds the body and the mind. Researchers have noted that migraine triggers appear in many different forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary. A high-quality diet successfully helps control migraine. Further, and more expressly, women with chronic migraine ate a poorer quality diet than that of women with episodic migraine. (2) Another study got even more specific with the type of diet helpful to migraine patients, particularly overweight folks. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was revealed to be episodic-migraine preventative. Usefulness was noted within one month of the diet modification. (3) Minster Chiropractic Center is not recommending that any of our patients start a particular diet now! If a Minster headache sufferer chooses to look into a new diet, Minster Chiropractic Center is here to talk and decide which diet (if any special one) is proper.

NUTRITION: Vitamin D

The same goes for vitamin D supplementation. Vitamin D deficiency has been documented in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics of vitamin D have initiated a look at including it in the care and prevention of headache and migraine. One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day decreased the frequency of migraine including the routine drug therapy. More research needs to be completed, but vitamin D supplementation appears encouraging. CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE

Headaches of all varieties – primary headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are everyday complaints brought to the Minster chiropractor. Research reported that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga), manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was beneficial. More specifically, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care, some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported helpful for migraine headache. (4)
