Minster Chiropractic Center Offers Chiropractic Care Which May Reduce the Need of Opioids
The epidemic of opioid use. The news talks about it. A good way to not have to rely on opioids is to not even start with them. The public and the medical community are (coming) together about this topic. Recent research presents the benefit chiropractic care has in reducing the prescribing, need, and use of opioids. Minster Chiropractic Center is happy to fill the additional role of pain management for Minster back pain sufferers!
CHIROPRACTIC BACK PAIN PATIENTS AND THEIR USE OF OPIOIDS
Minster Chiropractic Center knows the widespread opioid use in low back pain management. Researchers do, too. They reviewed low back pain patients treated by chiropractors to see if said chiropractic patients were less prone to use or more likely to use lower doses of opioids for their pain. Such an influence could lead to a decreased risk of adverse effects. They found that chiropractic patients as opposed to non-chiropractic patients were 55% less prone to fill an opioid prescription, a considerably lower number. (1) There are many Minster chiropractic patients who would like to not fill their opioid prescriptions. Minster Chiropractic Center is here to help them manage their back pain with the addition of Minster chiropractic care.
CHIROPRACTIC CARE IN A MEDICAL SETTING: THE POSITIVE IMPACT
Minster Chiropractic Center often cooperates with medical colleagues to be of assistance to our Minster back pain patients in managing their pain. Research endorses such an effort! The study of a family medicine practice that incorporated chiropractic services stated changes in opioid prescription rates. The monthly rate of opioid prescription writing decreased significantly by 22%. The rate of prescription writing for schedule II opioids decreased significantly by 32% too. The likelihood of writing a schedule II opioid prescription dropped by 27%, too, when chiropractic services were included. Medical providers prescribed daily doses of opioids that were 30% less than before chiropractic was added. Adding chiropractic reduced the dosage of opioids, the number of opioid prescriptions, and the types of opioids prescribed. The authors suggested that adding chiropractic was beneficial in opioid prescribing and implementation of a non-pharmaceutical option for pain management.
