A new clinical trial is starting that will evaluate the effectiveness of a 6-week specific rehab program blending education and exercises on walking capacity in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. Minster Chiropractic Center knows these Minster spinal pain conditions quite well…and delivers a relieving treatment plan of Cox® Technic spinal manipulation and mobilization with exercise!
EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS TESTED
The aim of this described study is to analyze whether the addition of an exercise program to an educational program can enhance walking capacity in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication. This is a randomized controlled clinical trial with 60 participants who will be randomly put in either the control group or the intervention group. The intervention group will receive an educational program plus an exercise program, while the control group will only receive the educational program. The main outcome measure is walking capacity, while the secondary outcome measures are pain intensity, disability level, and quality of life. (1) Minster Chiropractic Center knows our Minster spinal stenosis patients are quite concerned about these outcomes!LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS WITH NEUROGENIC CLAUDICATION
Lumbar spinal stenosis with neurogenic claudication is a condition that causes narrowing of the spinal canal in the low back area, which then puts pressure on the nerves. This can lead to pain, numbness, and weakness in the legs and buttocks. In severe cases, it can also make walking quite difficult. The condition is most common in people over 50 years old. These are just the people in Minster who need to keep (or at least begin) exercising!
THE EXERCISES
The specific exercises that will be utilized in this study are made to enhance walking capacity by stretching and strengthening the muscles around the spine. The hope is that by doing these exercises on a regular basis, patients will experience less pain and disability and experience a better quality of life.
THE CONTROL GROUP
The control group in this trial will only receive an educational program about their condition and how to manage it. While education is valuable, it is not typically enough on its own to provide significant relief from symptoms. That is why adding exercise is so significant. It involves the back pain patient in his or her relief!
