Minster Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts taken from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable partners in healing! Both have been incorporated throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties deal with issues with a variety of health conditions, many that Minster Chiropractic Center knows afflict our Minster chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine esteems frankincense and myrrh for their wide-ranging helpful health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are elements of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with the newest research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By regulating pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that support tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was reduced with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Minster Chiropractic Center appreciates combinations of treatments to help our Minster chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a serious complication of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease, by regulating pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as having the ability to activate blood and disperse blood stasis. The mix was put to the test and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Minster Chiropractic Center knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to know, but we want to give you the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
